Two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers got into a bloody fight after Saturday’s Love’s RV Stop 250 at Talladega Superspeedway.
NASCAR truck officials spent Saturday afternoon gathering information about the fight between three-time Truck champion Matt Crafton and playoff driver Nick Sanchez. The altercation apparently was triggered by the 10-truck crash that occurred with two laps remaining in the scheduled 94-lap event. Crafton parked his damaged truck in Sanchez’s pit, got out of it and walked away.
The multi-truck crash occurred when Sanchez tried to charge through the middle of the pack, creating a three-wide situation. Sanchez and Crafton collided, triggering the melee. Sanchez recovered and finished seventh, while Crafton had to settle for 24th.
Sanchez told reporters he was walking to his hauler, got tapped on his back and when he turned around, he got “sucker punched” in the face. A fight erupted and by the time they were separated Sanchez had a bloody face. He went to the infield care center. Sanchez didn’t require stitches but thought he might have a broken nose.
NASCAR says it will issue its ruling next week.
