Looks like Cadillac is joining the German brands and is building a “coupe” SUV using a four-door body with the brand new GT4. Powered by two turbocharged mild-hybrid engines, “youthful” styling, and billed as the first “New American Luxury” coupe SUV, it’s a vehicle that you won’t be able to buy in the SUV-obsessed U.S.
Other exterior features include a new version of Cadillac’s V-shaped grille, five exterior colors and “self-sealing” tires—billed as another “segment only” standard from Cadillac. The Sports Package also adds a performance look with its two-tone black on its upper body and dark treatments to its roof rails, accents, and 19-inch aluminum wheels. The GT4 also won’t be powered by a single technology as it’s a hybrid with either a 1.5 liter or 2.0 liter turbocharged engine driving either the front wheels or all AWD as options. Both engines get a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with a nine-speed automatic.
Inside, there are more Lyriq inspirations built into the GT4 with its wrap-around dash that extends into its door panels. It’s also treated to one of six different two-tone color combinations with chrome accents, brushed aluminum and carbon fiber trim panels. Just like the Lyriq, the center console looks like it’s floating from the rest of the interior but offers large and useful storage, according to Cadillac.
The instrumentation and infotainment are rolled into one screen with its “segment-only” 33-inch wide display that stands on its own from the rest of the dashboard. This infotainment and instrument panel screen also integrates the latest version of Cadillac’s Virtual Cockpit system that can be customized to the users preferences, but the audio comes from a 15-speaker AKG audio system. The dual-zone climate control is enhanced with a PM2.5 particulate filter with an AQS cabin air monitoring system to ensure the air inside is more breathable than it might be outside.
The only bad news is that the 2024 Cadillac GT4 will only be offered in China. Despite the U.S. SUV love-affair, and being billed as an “American Luxury” coupe SUV, the GT4 won’t be coming to our shores anytime soon. It’s priced between $31,031 (219,8700 Chinese Yuan) to $43,742 (309,700 Yuan), which again makes it all the more disappointing that this luxury compact SUV won’t find a way here.
