Mazda is a tiny but mighty company and they are more than just the sporty MX-5 that track day enthusiasts love so much. Like any major automaker it needs to sell the mass market faire to fund their passion products. The Mazda 3 is part of the foundation in which the rest of the company is built. A few years ago the automaker took a different approach with its models and adopted an “affordable upscale” philosophy which came with a new design language across all models and elegant styling. So far, we’ve been fans of the Mazda 3’s new direction. The 3’s Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter engine gets the car to 60mph in a very respectable time, it offers excellent handling, and for an affordable entry level compact car it has upscale cabin materials. For 2024, Mazda is pushing the MSRP needle ever so slightly—possibly as an adjustment for inflation—and has dialed back the trim options for a slightly more focused offering.
The 2.5 S base model hatchback is gone
This may shock the hot hatch fans, but the 2024 Mazda 3 2.5 S entry model will only be available as a sedan. This suggests that in 2023, entry level Mazda 3 customers didn’t have cargo space as very high on their list of priorities thus paving the way for the automaker to delete it from the books. The hatchback can still be found on other trims but anyone who wants one will need to pony up more cash for it. For example, the 2.5 S Premium trim with the six-speed manual is only available as a hatchback. The 2024 Mazda3 2.5 S sedan starts at $25,335—$25,380 in Alaska. That’s a $1,720 price jump over last year. (The images below show the 2023 model year; there’s only one photo of the 2024 so far.)
The 2.5 S Premium Package is also gone, kind of
In 2023 there were two versions of the Mazda3 Premium Package available: the FWD 2.5 S Premium Package with the six-speed manual transmission and the AWD automatic. For 2024 Mazda is offering the 2.5 S Premium exclusively with the manual gearbox and FWD drivetrain. The Mazda 3 2.5 S Premium starts at $31,515—$31,560 in Alaska—which is up $1,300 from the 2023 model year. With prices going up across the board Mazda may have figured that the increased cost for an additional automatic transmission AWD with trim with luxury appointments would push the price tag higher than its customers were willing to go. Those who still want that transmission and drivetrain set up can opt for the 2.5 S Carbon Edition.
How much does the 2024 Mazda3 cost?
Apart from the price, cutting back a trim, and rearranging the standard body types, there isn’t much difference between the 2024 and 2023 model year Mazda 3. So, if you’re in the market, here is a full breakdown of the 2024 Mazda 3 pricing. For Alaska, add $45 to each price.
