By the way the Last Call editions of the Dodge Challenger and Charger were touted, you wouldn’t expect any other special versions to be released. Turns out, Dodge and the Mopar Custom Shop had one more up their sleeves with the 2023 Special Edition package. What really makes this a special package is that both the Charger and Challenger will match each other, a first for the factory custom shop.
Mopar fans will point out that this isn’t the first time the factory custom shop made special edition Dodge vehicles. The series began in 2010 with the Dodge Challenger fitted with a functional hood scoop reminiscent of the T/A Challenger version from 1970 to 1974 along with strut tower braces, new engine cover, a Mopar shift handle, and Katzkin leather seats. After that, there were 10 other models to get the Mopar treatment that included the Ram 1500, Charger, Durango, Chrysler 300, and Dart. However, the single thread to the Mopar edition story was that the shop would only do a single vehicle model. Well, with the Charger and Challenger Hemi V-8s set to expire, it seems they wanted to join in on the outgoing celebration.
2023 Dodge Charger and Challenger Mopar Special Edition Design
Both the Challenger and Charger Special Editions will be based on the R/T Scat Pack Widebody trims. From there the Mopar Custom Shop shoots both vehicles in Pitch Black Clear Coat before adding matte black graphics and Mopar Blue tracer stripes to the bodies. From there, a Mopar Blue grille badge, Mopar Blue Brembo six-piston brake calipers, forged carbon-black wheels with Mopar valve stem caps, and a carbon-fiber decklid spoiler are added to make the exterior different from the regular R/T Scat Packs. This spoiler is only offered on the Mopar Special Editions and won’t be offered on any other Charger or Challenger model.
Inside, the custom shop features continue starting with a serialized Mopar instrument panel badge. The Alpine Audio Group is then added along with the Carbon Suede interior package. This package adds real carbon-fiber to the interior accents and a suede headliner to the interiors of the Charger and Challenger. The Plus Package is then included, which adds Scat Pack logos on the seats along with extras like heated and ventilated seats, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, a heated flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in leather, and other accouterments. Finally the interior is finished off with the Mopar Interior Appearance Group that adds bright door sills and Mopar-logoed floor and trunk mats.
No Extra Power
While not adding a supercharger to the Hemi, the Charger and Challenger will be powered by the legendary 392 V-8 pumping out 485 horsepower. If you’re into rowing your own gears, the Mopar Challenger gets the Tremec six-speed manual as standard, but available for all others and standard on the Charger is the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic. However, these are each standard on the R/T Scat Pack Widebody cars already, so there aren’t any performance gains on these editions, which is a shame.
Owners will get a custom-made, personalized metal certificate of authenticity with the vehicle-build number and rendering of their vehicle by the Mopar design team as part of the owner’s package. While there will be more Mopar editions to come with other Dodge and Ram models, this could potentially be one of the last Hemi-powered editions, and naturally. Normally we bemoan special editions that don’t really add anything, we’d be willing to argue that these could have historic significance to a future collector.
The other good news is that the Mopar 2023 Special Edition Package only adds $3,995 to the cost of the 2023 Dodge Challenger or Charger R/T Scat Pack Widebody. Unfortunately, you’ll have to be in North America to get one of the 220 of each (440 total between the two Dodges). Of the total, 200 units each are allocated to the U.S. while 20 each will go to Canada. Production of the Special Editions are penciled in for September and expected to deliver in October.
