- Lincoln is recalling MKC crossovers from the 2015 to 2019 model years due to a fire risk.
- A battery monitor sensor apparently short circuits and causes an underhood fire, which prompted a suggestion for owners to park their vehicle outside.
- Lincoln will remedy the problem by adding an inline fuse to the battery monitor sensor’s circuit.
If you own a 2015 to 2019 Lincoln MKC crossover, you might want to park it outside for a while. Lincoln is recalling 142,734 of them because of an engine compartment fire risk. This recall comes after an investigation into 18 incidents related to this symptom on vehicles ranging from 2015 to 2017. Obviously, this window has expanded to vehicles manufactured all the way from August 20, 2013, to August 2, 2019.
Apparently, the cause of the fire is a battery monitor sensor that can short circuit. After the sensor short circuits, it can get hot enough to cause an underhood fire. Lincoln’s remedy is to have dealers install an inline fuse to the battery monitor sensor’s circuit, to help protect against the sensor shorting and causing a fire.
If you think your MKC is one of the examples affected by this recall, you can use the handy NHTSA recall tool to check it against your vehicle’s identification number. You can also call their customer service hotline at 1-866-436-7332 to double-check. Lincoln will also send a recall notice to owners starting June 26.
Considering the repair is simply adding an inline fuse to the battery monitor sensor’s circuit, it’s likely that you won’t have to wait too long in the lobby during the repair. Of course, you’ll want to follow your dealer’s advice on the service time, and NHTSA’s advice on parking this away from any flammable structure until the repair takes place. Naturally, with a recall like this, the service will be free of charge to the owner.
