- Jaguar Land Rover will now offer Range Rover Autobiography and SV customers bespoke interior and exterior details, in a program known as the SV Bespoke commissioning service.
- Based in Warwickshire, England, the service will offer over 391 interior material combinations as well as 230 gloss or satin exterior paint colors, plus custom badge metals.
- Major updates include a 3.0-liter six-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain as well as new driver-assistance features and streamlined interior amenities.
Car enthusiasts don’t always stick to the original build of their respective vehicles. Even as brand new models roll off the lot, there is a mindset of personalization and improvement amongst many enthusiast owners. But this instinct isn’t cheap or easy, as the cost of the vehicle itself, parts, and labor all factor in.
If you’re a Range Rover enthusiast, however, you may be in luck. The brand is beginning to offer a service called SV Bespoke commissioning service, which will allow new Range Rover Autobiography and SV owners to customize their vehicle before it’s delivered. Prospective buyers will even have the chance to visit the SV Bespoke Commissioning Suite in the UK, though the personalized selections can be made online or at a local dealer as well.
SV Bespoke customers will have access to interior materials as well as exterior finishes, as dictated in the company’s seven-step creation process that considers colors, themes, SV exclusive options, materials, and veneers plus finishers.
To be specific, Jaguar Land Rover says there will be 391 material interior combinations and 230 colors in satin and gloss exterior finishes available, though the company has some pre-set material and color combos too. Or you can always paint match the exterior to your favorite color.
If those weren’t enough options, you can even choose between 24 different metallic finishes (including 24-carat gold) for the script on the hood and tailgate. But the ability to customize these models is only part of the ownership experience. Driving these luxury SUVs needs to be fun and comfortable too.
To that effect, the powertrains of the Autobiography and SV models have been updated. A new plug-in electric hybrid powertrain can be found in the Autobiography, featuring a 160-kW electric motor combined with the 3.0-liter six-cylinder Ingenium gas engine, producing 542 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Hauling the 5600-pound Autobiography chassis is no small feat, but the new plug-in-hybrid configuration propels the model from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds.
And the Range Rover SV is even faster, featuring the company’s 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 as a stop/start mild hybrid. All told, the SV model puts down 606 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Having experienced both powertrains on the Range Rover Sport last year, it’s hard to go wrong with either one, though the lesser 3.0-liter six-cylinder is plenty powerful.
The interior technology features of these bespoke models will also be slightly updated, falling in line with factory finish versions. A 13.1-inch floating glass touchscreen with Pivi Pro infotainment is standard and JLR says about 80% of tasks can be performed within two taps of the home screen.
A blend of Amazon Alexa voice AI and Land Rover voice control systems will be integrated to allow for maximum focus on the road ahead, while New Country Road Assist technology will naturally slow for curves and make for a more comfortable ride when using Adaptive Cruise Control.
It’s not clear how much these bespoke models will cost, given the variability of material and paint choices, but the $159,075 Autobiography and $194,575 SV price tags mean these bespoke versions certainly won’t be cheap. Given the cost of existing JLR factory options and the customer base for bespoke models, it’s likely these models will rise tens of thousands of dollars above the existing base price.
Even so, the bespoke business is one that works well for other luxury manufacturers like Bentley and Rolls-Royce, so JLR’s entrance into the mix could be a profitable one indeed.
