Anyone who isn’t a fan of the boxy front end of the new 2024 Nissan Z coupe’s nose needn’t worry about the upcoming Nismo performance model, because it appears to get a subtle redesign in this latest teaser starring Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg. The drifter gets very sideways in what appears to be a fully revealed Nissan Z Nismo performance trim, with a promise of more details to come.
So far, we only have a 45-second clip from Nissan teasing an all-new Nismo coupe. Forsberg takes his helmet, hops in the car, and shows us it’s more than capable of shredding some rubber. The clip ends with the words “Z Nismo: Coming Soon.”
Based on the clip, it’s unclear what performance modifications will be made, but if it follows the formula of its predecessor, then expect the model to feature reworked suspension tuning, branded strut tower braces, improved brakes, and a small power bump—say, an extra 15-25 hp.
The redesigned grille opening seems to be both wider overall, and more narrow from top to bottom for a sleeker look. It’s unclear if this means the entire Z range will get the new bumper, or if it will be Nismo-specific, but we think it’s overall a classier approach than the current base car’s squared-off opening. The Nismo also sports new crimson trim around the entirety of the lower bodywork, front splitter, side skirts, joined by a more aggressive rear bumper treatment. There doesn’t appear to be any dramatic aero work, just the changes to the bodywork and a subtle little spoiler on the trunk. It’s not too far off the render we commissioned a while back.
The current Z Performance trim is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 engine, good for 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, which already bests the previous-generation Z’s Nismo model’s performance by as much as 50 hp. We’re promised more information will be announced this summer.
