- The Lexus RX 450h+ adds a plug-in powertrain to the RX lineup, which nets you an estimated 35 miles of battery range.
- The new upscale crossover features an automaker-estimated 83 MPGe combined rating.
- Lexus says the plug-in hybrid will be available by the end of 2023 and start at $70,080.
Lexus is expanding its electrified lineup with another version of its popular RX crossover. Setting itself apart from the 350h and 500h hybrids, the new 450h+ addition to the RX family is a plug-in hybrid, which adds another option for luxury shoppers.
This latest Lexus RX delivers an estimated 35 miles of electric range, a new top price, and a high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack.
Powering this RX 450h+ is the aforementioned battery pack that feeds a pair of electric motors, which work with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder to make a total system output of 304 hp.
These electric motors also give the 450h+ standard all-wheel drive. Lexus doesn’t say how large this battery is but does note that it’s large enough to travel 35 miles with just the electric motors providing the oomph.
Surprisingly, the ’24 RX 450h+ usurps the RX 500h at the top of the price hierarchy. The more powerful RX 500h is about $6000 less than the $70,080 RX 450h+.
Of course, that plug-in hybrid powertrain does have added cost, but the RX 500h’s combined 366 hp might be more enticing for those wanting a little more performance.
Lexus says it’ll start taking RX 450h+ orders before the end of the year.
