Ahead of a full reveal, Hyundai is showing off the shape of its next-generation Santa Fe. This update will usher in the fifth generation of Hyundai’s Santa Fe since its introduction for the 2001 model year. While details are light, the folks at Hyundai wanted to show off the Santa Fe’s styling before its full reveal next month.
What will be under the hood is unknown. Currently, you can buy a Santa Fe with a traditional powertrain, as a full hybrid, or as a plug-in hybrid. The base model Santa Fe’s 2.5-liter I4 sends 191 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque through the standard 8-speed automatic.
The top trim currently adds a turbocharger to the 2.5-liter and cranks up the output to 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid and PHEV variants use the 1.6-liter I4 with the help of some electric motors. It’s hard to say if Hyundai is going to make any sweeping powertrain changes with this all-new lineup, but more oomph at the bottom end of the ladder would probably be welcome.
By way of sheetmetal, this new boxy design is looking to maximize the Santa Fe’s cargo capacity and lean into the growing outdoor activity trend. “The all-new Santa Fe is an SUV that finds a perfect balance between city life and the great outdoors, handling everything from busy family itineraries to car camping adventures,” said SangYup Lee, executive vice president and head of Hyundai Global Design Center. Lee also notes the ’24 Santa Fe will have a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model.
The new Santa Fe also joins the signature lighting trend. At the front, you’ll find H-lights, which might help folks easily recognize this crossover at night. This H-design carries over to the tail lights, too.
Inside, this new Santa Fe has been wholly revamped, with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen that flanks the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in front of the driver.
These screens sit together behind a curved panel, which follows the same kind of interior design you’ll find on battery-electric Hyundai products like the Ioniq 6. It appears the new Santa Fe will also feature a similar, column-mounted gear stalk as the Ioniq 6.
Hyundai plans to show off all of the new Santa Fe’s details in August, when it reveals this next-gen crossover on its YouTube channel. We doubt they’ll mention the price until closer to the ’24 Santa Fe’s launch, but you can almost expect the base price to rise into the $30,000 range before fees.
