General Motors is leaning into its interplanetary side again—not with a moon rover (this time), but with a new Omega Edition for the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV and Pickup models. Fortunately, the six-figure, limited-edition GMCs will get more than just a fancy Neptune Blue paint job and exterior badging when they land in the first half of 2024. Both the Omega Edition SUV and pickup are coming only in the Hummers’ triple motor 3X configuration, equipped with the impressive Extreme Off-Road Package.
The inspiration for the Omega Edition, as GMC puts it, comes from the “moonshot” of an idea of an all-electric truck—and now an SUV—like the resurrected Hummers. Sure, these new GMC-branded Hummers drastically depart from the original HMMWV, but both somehow end up exactly in line with the excess that the civilian Hummer H1 was known for—they’re literally massive, and can be outfitted to deliver extreme power and off-road capability.
The Omega also nods toward the interplanetary ambitions of the Ultium EV branding, a system of batteries and motors that power other GM EVs—and a new lunar rover GM’s co-developing with Lockheed Martin. Of course, this Ultium product (or, well, any Ultium-powered craft) won’t ever land on its paint’s namesake, the very distant ice giant of Neptune, our eighth planet in our solar system, as (depending on who you ask about Pluto). But the space connection is fun, as is GMC’s Neptune Blue matte paint, a fantastic looking matte blue finish for the special Omega Edition Hummer EV.
You’ll also find special edition badging in black, and blacked-out accents along the body of the Hummer EV 3X Pickup and SUV, but the spare tire cover on the SUV comes with an extra special touch. It has an embossed upper hemisphere of Neptune along with the “Hummer EV” logo that’s normally there. The pickup truck body only gets the MultiPro tailgate system from Kicker as its special rear treatment. We wonder why GMC couldn’t add the bed-mounted spare tire package and add a special cover that matches the SUV’s, but oh well. Another distinction will be the battery module as the SUV will only have a standard 20 module battery while the pickup will be able to option for the 24 battery module.
The standard Extreme Off-Road Package includes exclusive 18-inch gloss black beadlock-capable wheels with a Carbon Flash trim ring (the spare tire for the SUV will also match these special wheels) and wrapped in 35-inch mud-terrain tires. Other standard kit with the Extreme Off-Road Package includes the UltraVision camera system with underbody cameras, additional skid plates, and rocker panel protection. Another exterior touch both Hummers will get is a set of transparent Sky Panels and the interior will get an exclusive high lux carpet flooring insert.
The 2024 GMC Hummer EV 3X Omega Edition will begin deliveries in the “first half of 2024,” according to GMC. This special Hummer EV will also only be available to current pickup and SUV reservation holders initially, but GM hasn’t indicated when new reservations will be opened for the Omega Edition. Pricing for the special edition SUV with its 20 module battery will start at $139,995 while the 24 module Pickup will start at $149,995.
