We don’t yet know all the specifics, but Porsche engineers developed the electric 718s to share enough elements with the 911 that they can continue to share an assembly line with that model at the Zuffenhausen plant. The 911 and 718s will, however, be built on different platforms; Blume has said the electric 718s are planned for a new sports car platform, likely incorporating lessons learned from the 982-generation Cayman-based Mission R all-electric race car concept (above). We won’t be surprised if they carry styling similarities/influences from the Mission R, as well as its similar 900-volt fast-charging architecture and high-output dual electric motors. In terms of dynamics, this will notably be the first Boxster/Cayman generation featuring all-wheel drive.
